So it’s 11:45 am PST. Steve Jobs finished up his keynote about an hour ago and I decided to check to see if the iTunes 7.6 and iPhone 1.1.3 update were available yet.

Updated iTunes with no problems, (some quicktime, iMovie and iPhoto updates as well), once I restarted I plugged in my iPhone and was greeted with the “iPhone software 1.1.3 version is available, would you like to update now?”

Silly me, I clicked update and iTunes proceeded to start the 161.2MB download (kinda big don’t ya think?). It also in the background started preparing my phone for the update (read wiped). Well 30 into it iTunes is frozen, then my system crashes all together and my phone still isn’t updated. So I restart again, this time when I plug in my phone iTunes tells me that “The iPod software update server could not be contacted.”

Bunk Software Server

Great, so currently this is what my phone looks like.

Jacked iPhone

Seems to me that iTunes should have waited to wipe my phone until it had completely finished the update download? maybe?

I’ll update when something changes.

UPDATE…

After waiting 1.5 hours and retrying every 5 or so min, (plugging in the iPhone, waiting… unplugging and sigh…) the update servers finally came back online, and my phone prompted me to do a restore. Once the restore was complete it updated to 1.1.3 and now I’m back in business.

At least it didn’t brick. Thanks Apple!

I received a call while running my update. I got an error message saying the iPhone could not be updated. However it did fail gracefully as I just put it back in the cradle and ran update again.

Something to say?
